Today in human geo class we learned about location and points on a map. Location can be identified in 3 different ways. 1. place names- a toponym is the name given to a place on earth. 2. site- the physical character of a place. 3. situation- the location of a place relative to other places. We also learned that a region is a distinctive and unique area, an area on earth defined by one or more distinctive characteristics is a region. Most often applied to 2 scales. 1. spanning political states. 2. constrained within one political. A region derives it's unified character through the cultural landscape, and a combination of cultural, religious, and physical features. Geographers identify three types of regions and we only went over the first one which is a formal region (aka uniform region or homogeneous region) an area which everyone shares in common one or more distinctive characteristics. An example would be most Americans in America speak English and eat mostly American foods and follow a specific culture.
