Measuring Population
Today in class, on October 25th we continued our lesson on measuring population and we learned about crude birth rate and the number of deaths and births. We also learned about rate of natural increase (RNI) which is produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate. This gives us the annual natural growth rate. In percentage form- for a county or region Net migration rate= the difference between the number of persons entering and leaving a country. An excess of persons entering the country is net migration. For example Canada has 5.65 of migrants per 1,000 population. An excess of persons leaving the country is net emigration. Some push factors are civil war, enviormental degradation, religious or ethnic persecution. Some pull factors are better economic opportunities, better health service, and religious and political freedom. Another thing we learned today was (TFR) which is total fertility rate which is the average number of children born per women for a population to remain the same, the TFR must be 2.1.
